DESCRIPTION

The Cordillera Vilcanota is an impressive range of mountains which include the massive SALKANTAY snow-capped mountain (6,264m) and three others over 6000m. SALKANTAY is an outstanding snow peak, located less than fifty miles northwest of the city of Cuzco in south-central Peru. It is the highest mountain of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. Because of its proximity to the city, it is easily accessible and is climbed frequently.
Attractive trek; made for trekkers it has a changeable landscape; it is under sunrise code decentralization of trekking tours, since other tourist circuits have gotten famous in the last few years it’s getting crowded, this trek is totally different from the others, it’s not dirty, not popular, so, therefore, it’s not full of tourists on this trek you will see distinct ecosystems spread across its different zones of altitude and climate. ITINERARY

  • Day 1 Cusco - Soraypampa

  • Day 2 Soraypampa - Chaullay - Colpapampa

  • Day 3 Colpapamba – “La Playa” – Hidrolectrica – Aguas Calientes.

  • Day 4 Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu-Cusco

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Soraypampa

We will leave Cusco at 04:00 a.m by bus, and drive to Mollepata. It takes approximately 3 hours. And in Mollepata we will have a breakfast after which are going take a car until Markokasa (50 minutes) (3,380 m.a.s.l)from where we will hike for about 5 hours to Soraypampa (3,900m.a.s.l) where our first lunch spot will be as well our first campsite. along the way we will see many variations of vegetation and small wild birds After lunch we will hike for about 1 hour up to the Humantay lagoon (4200m.s.n.m) where we will appreciate the nice views of umantay snow mountain.
Walking distance approximately 10 Km.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Chaullay

After an early breakfast we start trekking from Soraypampa approx at 6:30 a.m we continue our hike the Peruvian highland. From this point we can appreciate the spectacular views of the Salkantay snow Mountain (6,264 m) the second highest peak in Cusco, white river, small lakes and moraines. Four hours up to the Salkantay pass (4650 m.a.s.l) and then 2 hours downhill to the lunch spot and 4 hours to the second campsite chaullay 2900 masl approximately.

Walking distance approximately 21 Km.

Day 3: Chaullay - Colpabamba – “La Playa” – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes.

After breakfast, you will start the trek for 7 hours until La Playa. Here after lunch in the place named “Playa” whole group for 4 days, takes a bus to Hidroelectrica and here you will be separate from the group of 5 days, continuing the trip, the bus will ride you until Hidroelectrica.
* Here you will have 2 options:
a) Take the train which price is US $ 33. ** From hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes (optional).
b) Or walk from hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes (Without guide)
** Train ticket from Hidroelectrica to Aguas calientes is not included as well.
Once you reach Aguas Calientes town, your itinerary continues, but this time with a new guide and a new group of friends.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu - Cusco

We are going up to Machu Picchu Archaeological site and we will explore the city and enjoy the ancient place where we begin a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. After the tour you will have time for exploring Machu Picchu by yourself and In the afternoon, , if you like, you can visit and relax at the hot springs in aguas calientes. From here we take the train back Ollantaytambo and bus to Cusco.
