Itinerary

The program can change according to the weather, river conditions and wishes of the group.

Day 1: Cusco – Pilcopata

We’ll leave Cusco by private bus, first stopping to visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. Then, we’ll drive through the mountains to get to the typical and folkloric town of Paucartambo. Here, we will take a short walk around the town before carrying on to Acjanaco, the highest point and entrance to Manu National Park. From here, we will continue into the Cloud Forest and at San Pedro, we will walk for about 1 hour to observe the National bird of Peru, the Cock of the Rock and many different kinds of monkeys, plants and flowers. We’ll arrive at Pilcopata in the evening where we will sleep in a local lodge.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Paititi Lodge – Machuwasi Lake

After breakfast, we will continue by private bus to Atalaya. On the way, we will stop to observe a coca plantation and we will also stop at a viewpoint where you can look out over the surrounding expanse of jungle and rivers. From Atalaya, we will take a motorized boat to our lodge. After lunch, we will come to take again our boat and we will go to Machuwasi Lake. There, we will have a walk in the jungle to learn about and appreciate the many different kinds of animals, birds, plants and flowers. If we are lucky, we will see monkeys. We will also make a tour around the lake in balsa rafts to see the hoatzin, a prehistoric bird living around the lake. Return to the lodge.

Day 3: Paititi Lodge – Parrots Clay Lick

Very early in the morning, we’ll go by boat to a clay lick where we’ll observe the green parrots and other birds. With some chance, we could even see some mammals. After breakfast, we will have a walk in the jungle for about 2 hours. We will reach the top of a mountain from where will have a gorgeous view on Madre de Dios River, Puerto Atalaya and the Jungle. On the way, we’ll look for animals and our guide will explain us everything about local flora and fauna. Return to the lodge for lunch. Jungle walks in the afternoon. There’s the possibility to go to a natural pool next to the lodge to relax!

Day 4: Paitit Lodge – Cusco
